Mirconeedling: Getting the GLOW!

Disclaimer: My skin has never been "good". It's a constant work in progress and I have to work extremely hard to get it in shape. Good skin doesn't run in the family, hormone levels go up and down, and I've worn foundation since the age of about 7 (teased after having chickenpox, so I slathered my skin in Cover Girl at such a young age every day). Not good.

The reason I wanted to try professional microneedling is that I wanted to get rid of all my scarring, wanted my natural glow again, and needed help with fine lines. I heard microneedling can help with all of that, so I got it done at Renew Me Medspa in Arlington, VA.

Important: If you are considering microneedling, do not get a microneedling kit to do at home. 🚫 You can give yourself a major infection and will not get the same results. Just get it done the right way with a certified clinician at a medspa.

My dermatologist at Renew Me Medspa can best answer your questions, but here's my take: micro-needling is a process performed with a medical-grade, state-of-the-art microneedling device called a "skin pen" designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. 3-4 treatments are recommended for best results. I was SO surprised to only have one session done and see results! I purchased a package afterward!

Below are photos of my no-makeup journey (including my "during" photo).

PROCESS
1) A numbing agent is applied to my skin at Renew Me Medspa. When it was numb, the microneedling process began.
2) The skin pen machine is turned on and my clinician uses it all over my face, especially where there are fine lines and scars.
3) My own blood was used to help heal my skin via platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
4) After the process, my skin is cleaned off well and I resume my normal activities while being careful with my skin.

NOTES
-I stayed out of the sun for 4 days and used sunblock anyway.
- It took only 3-4 days to heal; results differ on an individual basis.
-I only used Aquaphor and a little hydrocortisone to heal my skin, then went back to my daily clean skincare routine.

Highly recommending Renew Me Medspa in Arlington, VA. Beatriz, my dermatologist, did an amazing job and I purchased a package to do two more sessions this year.
