DMV News: Intralot to Operate the Maryland Lottery

Intralot is excited to announce that it has been tapped by the Maryland Gaming Commission to operate the Maryland Lottery, a highly successful gaming platform. The $260 million, 10-year contract would make Intralot the state’s provider of counter terminals at 4,300 Maryland retailers, and primary lottery software and services provider.

The news comes as Intralot SA, Intralot’s Greece-based parent company, closes in on its acquisition of Bally’s International Interactive division, making Intralot the world’s leading digital gaming operator and technology provider for lottery products with a footprint in some of the most attractive markets in Europe and North America. Their combined technology will allow Intralot to pursue new opportunities in gaming and lottery markets globally, as the company is also making efforts to extend its contract with Washington DC for another term.

“Intralot is eager to begin a new era of collaboration with Maryland, and renewing our long relationship with the District as well,” said Richard Wheeler, US-based senior vice president for Intralot. “We look forward to confidently continuing our track record delivering best-in-industry performance in this new market, with many more to come.”

Intralot has been DC’s lottery partner for more than 15 years, and in that time has been an incredible community partner, making numerous charitable contributions in the DC community, totaling nearly $800,000. In 2025 alone, the company has given $10,000 to the DC Chamber of Commerce, $10,000 to the Go-Go Museum and Cafe, and $3,000 to Far Southeast Family Collaborative, with a major donation to the University of the District of Columbia in final stages.

The Maryland Board of Public Works must now approve Intralot’s contract with the state of Maryland; the contract would begin in 2027.
