New 14th Street Restaurant Gypsy Kitchen Opens Tonight
The D.C. location boasts a year-round roof deck and pan-Mediterranean food and beverage offerings

Washington, D.C. (August 27, 2020) — Gypsy Kitchen (1825 14th Street NW), a new pan-Mediterranean style restaurant, is opening its doors on 14th Street tonight. Executive chef Eric Milton, formerly of Think Food Group, has put together an extensive menu influenced and inspired by the flavors of Spain, Greece, Lebanon, Morocco, and more. Milton's menu will feature a mix of traditional dishes and innovative bites such as:

  • Tuna crudo: harissa, squid ink tuile, smoked salt

  • Lamb moussaka: grilled eggplant, tomato, conserva, feta custard

  • Lacquered half chicken: seasonal pickles, sabzi salad, chef's selection of sauces served, flatbread

  • Crispy chicken briouat: phyllo-wrapped Turkish spiced chicken, oven-dried confit tomato jam

  • Kibbeh: beef and lamb, bulgar parsley salad, garlic toum

A curated bar program will complement Milton's food offerings. Bar Director Giovanni Maramis and his team of bartenders will be featuring a cocktail menu and wine + beer list that highlights regions of the Mediterranean and Europe like:

  • Hafla at the Clover Club: American dry gin, fino sherry, cocchi rosa, raspberry, lemon aquafaba

  • Isla de Moda: bourbon, walnut banana, honey, spice bitters

  • Achilles Leg Day: cognac, dates, clementine, greek yogurt, lemon

Gypsy Kitchen's zero-proof cocktails include:

  • I'm a Little Tea Pot: chai, mint tea, lemon

  • The Bear Necessities: bergamot, vanilla, lemon, soda

  • Ring-a-Ring O'Roses: hibiscus-blueberry shrub, lemon, ginger beer

Local beers from 3 Stars Brewing, Atlas, Right Proper Brewing, and more will join Mediterranean brands on the beer menu like Efes (Turkey) and KEO (Cyprus). A carefully picked wine menu features Lebanese favorite Massaya, Greece's Domaine Skouras Aghiorghitiko, and D.Reynaud "Les Monestiers" from France among others.

“We're thrilled to join the 14th Street neighborhood and be part of the community,” says managing partner Andres Sweek. “Chef Eric has put together a delicious menu of many flavors that we're excited to launch in D.C.” A D.C. local, Sweek has also been at the helm of another one of the District’s top restaurants, such as Oyamel and Barcelona Wine Bar. Sweek and Milton have curated a team of local talent for the launch, including chefs, bartenders, line cooks, and more.

Complementing the menu offerings, Gypsy Kitchen’s decor will also include nods to the Mediterranean region, including elements of North African and European cultures. Every detail, down to the vibrant tapestry rugs and tiling, will transport guests to another land. A mix of high top, lounge, and traditional dinner tables offers diners a unique experience. While the space, designed by RDStudio Inc., has been completely transformed and elevated, some familiar elements of the former Masa 14 remain, notably the iconic rooftop bar and patio. Boasting a retractable awning and greenery-decked walls, the 1,100-square-foot deck will remain open as a year-round oasis for Washingtonians to enjoy.

Gypsy Kitchen will be open from 4pm to 10pm, Monday through Wednesday; 4pm to 11pm on Thursday; 2pm to 11pm Friday and Saturday and 2pm to 10pm on Sunday. Weekend brunch will launch in the coming weeks.
